AP English
Online learning with real tutor support
AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition are two of the most widely taken AP exams in the country, and both ask a lot of students. AP Lang focuses on rhetorical analysis and argumentative writing, reading nonfiction closely and building a case with evidence. AP Lit focuses on literary analysis, reading fiction, poetry, and drama closely and writing about how meaning is constructed.
Both exams score heavily on essay writing under time pressure, and both assume a level of analytical reading that most students haven't been asked for before. A student who's genuinely strong at close reading and structured argument tends to do well. A student who's memorized terms and techniques without applying them consistently often struggles when the exam gives them an unfamiliar passage.
Because both courses build directly on the language analysis, essay writing, and literary response skills developed earlier in high school, gaps from Grade 9 or 10 tend to surface here, usually at the worst possible time.
AP English Language and AP English Literature skills are covered within our full K-12 English tutoring, so your teen's personalized plan can build these skills alongside the broader high school English curriculum.
When your teen gets started with APLUS America, we take time to understand where they're currently at with analytical reading and essay writing. Their weekly plan then targets the specific skills that matter most for their AP course.
Our curriculum is fully aligned to Common Core Standards and builds directly into the analytical and writing skills both AP English courses require.

We start by getting a clear picture of your teen's current analytical reading and essay writing skills. This helps us understand exactly where support is needed.
Every Monday, your teen's personalized learning plan is updated with new activities targeting the analysis and writing skills their AP course demands. Lessons are delivered through English Wiz, our online learning platform.
Your teen's lessons work through real texts and practice essays, with instant feedback to help build genuine analytical skill rather than memorized templates.
AP exams reward students who can apply analytical skill to an unfamiliar passage, not just recall terms and techniques. That's why our lessons focus on genuine practice with real texts, so your teen builds the underlying skill rather than a script that only works on passages they've already seen.
From there, your teen gets a personalized learning plan that targets their specific gaps, at their own pace, with tutor feedback available on their actual essays when they need it.
APLUS America is curriculum-based English tutoring, not a dedicated AP exam prep course. We don't run full-length timed AP practice exams or teach AP-specific scoring rubrics in isolation. What we do is build the underlying analytical reading and essay writing skills both AP English courses require, which is the foundation any AP-specific exam strategy needs to work. Many students combine our ongoing tutoring with their school's AP course and any exam-specific review closer to the test date.
AP English Language and Literature skills are included in the full APLUS America English curriculum. There is no separate AP package. English tutoring starts from $24 per week, which covers the full K-12 curriculum, a personalized weekly lesson plan, tutor support, and weekly progress reports. New families get the first two weeks free.
