Tutoring for Learning Disabilities

When you search for “tutoring for learning disabilities” - you’re not alone. Many parents worry: “Is tutoring for my child with a learning disability worth it?” “Can a tutor really help?” The answer is yes, especially when that tutoring is shaped around how a child learns, not simply what the school curriculum demands.

At APLUS America, we provide tutoring for learning disabilities that’s personalised, supportive, and results-driven. Whether your child has ADHD, dyslexia, autism, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia, we believe they can flourish with the right support.

What does it mean to have a learning disability?

  • A learning disability isn’t about effort or intelligence, many children with learning disabilities are bright, creative, and capable.
  • These are differences in how children process information: reading, writing, speaking, thinking, focusing, or understanding.
  • Neurodivergent learners may face difficulty in one or several areas, and also bring unique strengths.

Signs you might see in your child

Here are some early warning signs that suggest your child might benefit from learning disability tutoring:

Reading / Writing Difficulties Math / Number Sense Challenges Attention / Processing / Executive Skills
Struggles with letter-sounds, slow reading, avoiding reading tasks Trouble recalling basic number facts, confusing digits, difficulty with place value Easily distracted, difficulty following multi-step instructions, trouble organising work or staying on task
Misspellings, messy writing, trouble putting thoughts into sentences Avoiding math, anxiety around numbers or word problems Forgetting what was just read or heard; slow to complete tasks; impulsivity

Step 1
Student Assessment

Every child learns at a different pace and has different tutoring needs. We assess your child to identify what your child does and does not know, including the knowledge gaps holding your child back.

Step 2
Personalized Learning

Every week we create a new online lesson plan especially for your child. Our lesson plans target the knowledge gaps, so that they are ready to forge ahead. No guessing what to do next, simply log in and do the lessons set especially for you.

Step 3
Tutor Support

Our interactive lesson plans are supported by our tutor team. Just pick up the phone and speak to one of tutors to discuss your child’s progress. Kids can even speak to our tutors for extra help with any question on the program.

Step 4
Rewards & Motivation

Earn points as you learn. Cash in points for real rewards such as iTunes vouchers. It is amazing how effective a little reward and recognition can be.

Success Stories

Child with ADHD/Anxiety - Success! We are so happy with this program! Our 10yr old has severe ADHD and Anxiety and we have struggled for years with homework. Homework efforts would result in tears and frustration but now we have a child who actively engages in his online lessons and celebrates his achievements. He is gaining confidence and is starting to catch up to his grade level. We can't wait to see what the future holds and to see him reach his potential! Carolyn
Wished we joined earlier! We started APLUS America a few months ago. We never expected such outstanding results. We saw an improvement from week one! Our child has ASD and ADHD and has always needed a little more help. We have not looked back since joining APLUS America. Our daughters school even approached us asking what we were doing as our daughter had advanced in such a short amount of time. Our daughter quickly went from shutting down during math to achieving 100% on math sheets and tests. We can't thank this program enough. L Mowbray
Amazing improvement in confidence My 8 year old (ASD, ADHD) started in January this year and we are already seeing a dramatic improvement in his confidence - everyday last year i had to personally take him to his classroom where he would beg me not to leave him there plus every night and morning he would beg not to go to school. Since starting with APLUS America he rarely begs not to go to school and i have not had to take him to his classroom at all. I can also leave the schoolgrounds prior to the bell going. He also admits that the lessons are really helping him. can't wait to see how much more he can achieve. Janine
Brilliant Product & Service We have been so amazed by the progress our child has made in just 12 weeks! Our son had many gaps in his learning in math and English and although in grade 8 at school was scoring at a grade 6 level - with the help of Om (his tutor) and regular sessions 4 - 5 times a week, our son has made massive gains - and best of all, his confidence, particularly in math has increased. His test scores at school have also reflected a huge improvement! Our son loves it as he is motivated by the promise of gift cards from APLUS America to spend on the things he enjoys. Our son has Autism and ADHD and this style of learning has been just what he needed!! Tracey K

How APLUS America tutoring for learning disabilities works

At APLUS America, our learning disability tutoring program includes:

  • Personalized diagnostic assessments to identify foundational gaps ensuring every lesson is tailored to your child’s specific needs.
  • Weekly personalized lesson plans based on the child’s current needs.
  • Interactive lessons with step-by-step solutions and multisensory engagement.
  • Games and reward systems to help with motivation and consistency.
  • Live tutor support available in evenings (Mon-Thurs
  • Weekly reports so parents can see what’s improving, what still needs work.

What if there's no formal diagnosis?

You don’t need a formal diagnosis to start helping your child. Many parents delay support because they think they must wait for testing. But starting tutoring earlier, especially something like ours that adapts as the child progresses, can make a big difference.

How parents & schools can partner together

  • Share what you see at home with your child’s teachers.
  • Request assessments or learning support plans if needed.
  • Use consistent tools/strategies between home & school (visuals, extra time, reminders).
  • Support your child’s strengths; celebrate small wins.
  • Advocate for assistive tools if writing or reading is difficult (dictation tools, audiobooks, calculators, etc.).

Home & Daily Strategies to Support Learning

Even outside tutoring sessions, parents can help by:

  • Establishing predictable routines for homework / reading / work time.
  • Breaking big tasks into smaller, more manageable steps.
  • Using multisensory tools: flashcards, reading aloud, drawing diagrams.
  • Reducing distractions (quiet space, turning off electronics when working).
  • Encouraging rest, movement breaks.
